Client is one of India’s most dynamic business houses with an annual turnover of Rs.160 billion and having leadership in global trading operations and development of private infrastructure. Client has considerable investment in maritime infrastructure.
Challenge
The success of the project relied on the accurate sizing of the market. Entire design of the shipyard had to be structured in lines to the demand for various categories of vessels. Hence, it required understanding of both shipbuilding processes and shipbuilding and repair market. Capacity planning had also to be done in view of the increasing ship sizes. Having done this, client anticipated financial feasibility to be worked out.
Methodology
i-maritime with it’s vast database and ready access to various experts across the shipbuilding and ship repair industry, analyzed the market size for different types and sizes of vessels. Coupled with SWOT analysis, benchmarking and competition analysis, target market was decided and sized. Other constraints including regulation, legal and technical issues were considered while planning the facility. Project cash flow was calculated after estimating capital cost, operations and maintenance cost and taxes.
i-maritime Proposition
i-maritime proposed shipyard facility with three berths capable of building up to Panamax vessels (< 60000 DWT) with a capital cost of Rs.18 billion. Along with this, two dry berths for ship repair facilities handling up to 136 vessels annually were suggested. A technical shipyard planning was done in concordance with the targeted market. A meticulous financial analysis of this project established an IRR post-tax of 28% for the developer.
