Challenge
Railways cater to abound 40% of the container flow coming to JNPT. Also majority of the container coming by road get consolidated near the port side CFS. However it is important to establish factors affecting this location of consolidation. LCL cargo too forms a substantial part of the container traffic at CFS.
Modus Operandi
CFS demand was established from the understanding of current container flow patterns, port capacity, while supply was calculated from expansion plans of existing CFS and capacities of upcoming CFS. SWOT analysis of competitors was done and other opportunities created due to proposed development of Navi Mumbai SEZ were scrutinized.
