Client is major shipping company headquartered in Hong Kong operating a modern fleet across the globe.
Challenge
The client wanted i-maritime to analyze possible avenues of coastal waterways on long and short haul for passenger and container cargo. This has to analyzed in terms of cost and time benefits which would be offered over road and amount of traffic volumes on each route.
Methodology
i-maritime based on road network and geographical locations identified possible locations for Ro-Ro shipping. This was further short listed based on Shipping logistics costs, cargo volumes, time and cost savings in terms of road. To understand the process better, Ro-Ro operations worldwide was studied.
i-maritime Proposition
About thirty locations on West and east coast of India for long and short hauls were analyzed. Based on size of projects, possible investment, technical feasibility based on geographical location, cargo volumes, future potential and availability of alternatives, two long haul and two short haul locations were recommended for operations. For example, one of the route suggested with high traffic volume provided 56% time savings and 71% cost savings over road. This could be translated to savings of Thirty thousand rupees of savings.
