Bulk cargo traffic forecast for state port in South Gujarat

" Client has investments in state port of South Gujarat and looks for expanding its hinterland by targeting other commodity groups in secondary and tertiary hinterland. Client expected i-maritime to locate prospective customers. "

Client
Client is one of India’s most dynamic business houses with an annual turnover of Rs.160 billion. Client has established itself in trading businesses and has considerable investment in maritime infrastructure.

Challenge
North India including Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab forms the biggest secondary hinterland to the port. The study involved collection and analysis of information regarding movement of various commodities between the hinterland and various ports on west coast.

Modus Operandi
Painstaking data collection exercise was done in most parts of North India. Interviews were done with traders, exporters and importers to understand the commodity flows and identify any constraints. Data was also collected from various major and minor ports on west coast. This data was analyzed and filtered based on logistics costs incurred by the customer.

i-maritime Proposition
i-maritime identified key customers for the client and avenues for marketing for increasing port traffic by focusing on commodities like thermal coal, edible oil, fertilizer, de-oiled cake, steel, cement, food grains and petrochemicals.

Success stories
Client has become more confident about the cargo traffic at the port and has made key investments in expansion of port infrastructure.
