Client is manufacturer of Dry Bulk handling equipment and supplier of ship loaders. As part of diversification client has planned to expand in Ship repair.

Challenge
The study required understanding of the technical constraints at the proposed land. Market size had to be estimated in terms of possible vessels which could use ship repair facility at this location. Identification of target market segment was a challenge. A competitive analysis had to be done to find category of vessels which the client should target.

Modus Operandi
Indian Registrar of Shipping had about 900 vessels registered with it, which was used as starting point for estimation of market segment. This market universe was again analyzed on various parameters to sieve out a market of 304 vessels, to form the core market, which the proposed repair facility should target. Thereafter based on primary data consisting of interviews of ship owners, their repair bills for each segment of the vessels were estimated. This demand for ship repair in terms of value was projected for next 5 years based on various parameters studied.

Based on critical assessment of services, competitive docking charges business model for the client was worked out.
